Black Silicon Carbide (SiC) suitable for potato peeling rollers
For coating industrial potato peeling rollers,why black silicon carbide suitable,but brown fused alumina,white fused alumina and green silicon carbide not?
1. Black silicon carbide has high hardness, sharp particles, is resistant to organic acid corrosion from potatoes, has a wear life 3-5 times that of corundum, and is less prone to pulverizing and contaminating fruits and vegetables;
2. Brown corundum contains iron impurities, which easily cause the skin of potatoes to turn black. Brown corundum should not be used in peeling rollers for root vegetables and fruits;
3. White corundum is essentially α-alumina. Long-term immersion and rinsing with organic acids from fruits and vegetables causes slow corrosion, pulverization, and sand shedding;
4. Green silicon carbide is relatively expensive and is mostly used for fine polishing; its cost-effectiveness for peeling is poor.
Black silicon carbide raw material specifications
SiC≥98.5%, low iron oxide, low free carbon; preferential shaping of rounded sand particles with fewer sharp corners to reduce scratches on potato flesh. The matrix material uses polyurethane/rubber rollers, providing good adhesion and shock absorption, making it less likely to damage fruits and vegetables.
