‌Abrasive for sandblasting and etching‌
Black silicon carbide is suitable for sandblasting process on the surface of tombstones due to its high hardness (Mohs hardness 9.2) and uniform particle distribution. It can accurately etch hard stones such as granite and marble to form frosted texture patterns.

Green silicon carbide (mesh size such as 24#, 30#, etc.), Mohs hardness 9.4, is also used for cemented carbide sandblasting, suitable for high-precision carving needs.

Silicon carbide spray-on board is used for tombstone surface engraving. Its high density (density ≥1800kg/mm2) and impact resistance can ensure clear and stable marks, avoiding the risk of breakage caused by parallel marks.‌

Sandblasting process parameters
The depth of sandblasting is related to the demand for tombstone engraving. Shallow engraving requires high-purity silicon carbide (such as grade A black silicon carbide, SiC content ≥ 98%) to improve etching efficiency and pattern three-dimensionality.
Sandblasting equipment needs to match the fluidity of silicon carbide particles to prevent nozzle clogging and reduce material loss through recycling.
Pretreatment of inkjet printing plate
Before inkjet printing, the silicon carbide plate needs to be pre-burned to improve hardness and density and reduce edge collapse during engraving.
Surface cleanliness and flatness directly affect the inkjet effect, and polishing or grinding is required to ensure that the substrate is free of impurities.
3. Dosage and cost control
The amount of silicon carbide used is positively correlated with the engraving area and depth. Shallow engraving on tombstones usually requires 1-2kg/m2.
Although the unit price of high-purity silicon carbide (such as grade A) is relatively high, the recycling rate is high and the overall cost is controllable.
